Kangaamiut: The colourful houses of this village cling to the rocky slopes. Like most in Greenland, these houses are built on a concrete slab which sits on solid rock. The consequence is that all services - plumbing, electricity etc - are run above the ground. In common with many villages on steep slopes, Kangaamiut has wooden stairways leading up to the houses so that access is possible even when conditions are icy.
